Topic of the thesis: Gender, Education and Social Stratification.
Abstract: The project studies the key questions regarding the interrelations among gender, education and inequality in a comparative perspective. The first part of the project analyses gender inequality of educational opportunities in terms of level and field of study, as well as its intersections with the social origin. The second part focuses on labour market outcomes, namely, on gender inequalities in terms of pay and class attainment, studying the gender gap within different levels of education and within different fields of study. Also, in this case, empirical analysis considers the interrelations between gender and family backgrounds. Finally, the project considers the interrelations between education, family dynamics and gender inequality. The project is based on a diachronic and longitudinal analysis of social inequality, considering its evolution over the life course as well as its relations with other biographical events such as marriage, parenthood, and divorce. Moreover, it relies on a double comparative perspective: first, a systematic comparison of the Italian stratification regime with one of other European and non-European countries; second, an intra-Italian comparison.
