CfP - Europe at vote. Between nationalist and pro-European challenge

The Department of Political Sciences (DiSPO) of the University of Genoa, in cooperation with the Italian Society of Electoral Studies (S.I.S.E.), the Italian National Election Studies (ITANES) and the SISP's Standing Group on "Parties, public opinion, elections", is pleased to announce the following

CALL FOR PAPERS

 EUROPE AT VOTE
Between nationalist and pro-european challenge

4-5 July 2019
Department of Political Sciences (DiSPO)
University of Genoa

Between 23 and 26 May 2019, in the twenty-seven EU member states - in a political scenario characterized by the challenge of populist and sovereign parties to European institutions and traditional parties -, the election of the European Parliament will take place. In a phase of deep crisis in the European political system, the bipolar electoral competition between Euro-skeptical political forces and the pro-European parties takes on an unprecedented political importance. Compared to past European consultations, often derelict in second-order elections, this vote may constitute a new electoral earthquake, with unprecedented consequences for the future of European unification and for the internal political dynamics of individual countries.
A first analysis of the elections, next May, will be conducted by researchers of electoral behavior, political parties, leadership and communication, which will meet in two days of study (4 and 5 July) at the Department of Political Science (DISPO) of the University of Genova. In view of this meeting, researchers and scholars are invited to submit papers focusing on the following topics:
• electoral participation
• the dynamics of party systems
• the European and national dynamics of the electoral campaign
• the determinants of voting choice
• communication party politics
• campaign and network participation
• policy personalization
• campaign and party funding
• methodological innovations in the election study.
