Topic of the thesis: The thesis aims to explore political and economic determinants behind public support towards anti-poverty redistributive policies. In particular, the focus is on how these two dimensions interact both at the individual level and at the contextual one in shaping individual attitudes.

Abstract: The project aims to investigate the determinants of individual support for anti-poverty measures, focusing on the effect of the political and the economic dimensions at individual and contextual levels, and on the within-level and cross-level interaction of such dimensions. Previous research indicates that poorer individuals and left-wing voters are more likely to support redistributive policies, while richer individuals and right-wing voters are less supportive. However, a comprehensive analysis of the combined political and economic factors influencing support is lacking, as is an understanding of how these interactions vary across countries. The project is structured in two stages. The first stage involves identifying comprehensive measures of political and economic dimensions through literature review, evaluation of available data sources, Qualitative Comparative Analysis, and Exploratory Factor Analysis. Confirmatory Factor Analysis and Structural Equation Modelling will validate these measures. The second stage employs random intercept and random slope logistic multilevel models, to analyse the effects of political and economic factors on support for anti-poverty policies and its variation within and between countries, providing insights into how political and economic predictors influence support across different national contexts.
