Abstract
This seminar will consider the use of computational analysis in a mixed-methods research design. I suggest that computational analyses of literature are particularly useful in studying historical cultural frames and the ways that culture contributes to cross-national differences in institutional and policy development.
The class is divided into two parts. First, I give a talk on how to use computational methods in a research design and use as an example how my recent book and articles study cultural influences.
Second, I invite student volunteers to briefly describe their own work. We then collectively consider how they might expand their theoretical arguments and enrich their empirical data with computational methods.
